July 4th Gifts

I made some inexpensive July 4th gifts for our kids preschool teachers to give them tomorrow since we won’t see them for a week because of the holiday. We are giving them a card, a notepad, covered with a small piece of paper, and a bead pen I made. Here are the instructions for the pens:
needed:
ink pen – kind with a lid
terrifically tacky tape (the widest)
heat gun or hairdryer might work
micro beedz
how to make it:
place the tacky tape on the pen and roll it around it. if there is a gap, add a small amount to fill
peel the backing off the tape
heat the tape with the heat gun (to make it even more sticky)
roll the pen in a tray of micro beedz until completely covered
press the pen on a hard surface and roll the pen (to help them stick into the tape)
pen is complete – replace the cap
have fun!
you can stamp on a label or cut a piece of scrapbook paper to fit on the pen before placing the tape on the pen and use clear micro beedz for a different look.

8×8 Kindergarten Scrapbook

These are pictures of a 8×8 Kindergarten Scrapbook I made for my niece. She will be in Kindergarten. My sister can help her add pictures. I may add some stamps of school kids and buttons later. Here are some of the pages I made. 8×8 books are easy to make. They are a good size to be able to put 2 pictures per page, but they don’t require a lot of work for the page layout. They are good for gifts.

Preschool Book Idea

I had an idea of a preschool book we are putting together. We are making one for our son and one for our daughter. They are both in the same preschool. These are very simple pages…there are 4 elements I wanted to make sure each page has: a letter (which stands for a concept that is learned in their preschool), a 4″x4″ piece of artwork that goes with that letter (either single or double matted), a picture of each child doing something that goes along with the concept for that page, and a paper telling how the child progressed each year during preschool.

The book I bought at Hobby Lobby on their 50% sale and bought all black hinge pages to go in it. The letters I bought at Hobby Lobby and painted them with red craft paint and tied yellow, red, or black ribbons on them. The letters had adhesive backing on them and stuck easily to the pages. I bought a pack of small legal pads of paper at Office Depot and used one per page. I thought it added a “school paper” look to it. I bought textured cardstock to mat the artwork and photos at Hobby Lobby. I use a paper cutter to get straight edges. I also found “school” scrapbook papers and cut them into 12″x2.5″ strips and added them to every two page layout. I added any stickers I already had that went with each letter’s theme. I wanted to share this idea with any that might be interested in making one for their child, grandchild, niece or nephew. It was a realtively inexpensive project to make for our children to have to look back at or for a kindergarten teacher to be able to see where a child is when they start Kindergarten.

Our New Project

Since I have completed some other things, we are ready to start working on our son’s “Preschool Years” scrapbook — a book of concepts he has learned or is working on in his preschool class. Yesterday, we picked out a book and “school” papers and ribbons. We also bought naked chipboard letters to paint and sand to add to each page for each concept. It will have pictures, artwork and a list on a mini legal paper of what he learned at each year of preschool. I think he will like to have this later to look back at.

Gift for Dad

I made a little gift for my Dad. I made 6×6 pages from chocolate brown textured cardstock. I added papers from My Minds Eye collection. I used the Terrifically Tacky Tape to mount the papers so they will not come off easily. I punched a hole in the upper left hand corner and added a jump ring and tied 3 different ribbons on it. On the pages, I added flowers, ric rac, ribbons, ect. My mom will add pictures of the grandkids or pictures of the house they are building at the farm. It was really “A Piece of Cake” to make!

Explosion Mini Scrapbook

This is called an Explosion Mini Scrapbook. I saw one at the scrapbook store by me, but they wanted to charge for a class to make it. I saw how they made it and had to figure out how to fold the papers. When I finally did, it turned out really cute. Saturday night, I went to a friend’s house and our family had dinner with their family and we made two explosion books. She helped me find a link that I could post that can show you how to make one.
