Today I made some SIMPLE scrapbook pages I put together very quickly during naptime. I am trying to use some of the scrap papers and embellishments I have. I reorganized all my scraps of paper a few weeks ago so I can get to them easier. I thought since I finished some other projects I had to get done, that I would make some pages ahead of time. I like doing that and then all I have to do is pull the pages and add pictures and journaling.

I made an altered paint can for my daughter’s preschool teacher last year. Inside, I added cute teacher gifts (stationary & envelopes with cute teacher quotes on each card, a goodie bag with a list of reasons each thing applied to the teacher and our child) . The can has “school” paper attached to it and the lid has adhesive cork paper I cut in a circle to fit the lid with a crayon glued to it. I stamped each teacher’s name and room on the cans. I thought this little teacher gift turned out cute and it was “A Piece of Cake!”

With all the different companies making die cut machines and all the different die cuts to go in the machines, I have found a blog that explains the difference between them all and which ones to use. I bought a Sissix machine in 2001 and have several die cuts that go with it including an entire alphabet and number font that I use fairly often. I didn’t want to buy new Sissix die cuts if a new system is going to replace it. So I started looking for information on my machine. What I have found is there is a converter that will accomodate my original die cuts, the sizzlits, and cuttlebug die cuts….so all I need to get is the $15 converter…not an expensive machine since with the converter it will take all of them. The Cuttlebug will also take the Sissix die cuts and the Cuttlebug die cuts. That is pretty good for now until I can decide if I will want something like the Wishblade to do titles from the fonts in the computer. Until then…
Here are some instructions for turning a picture into black and white with an object in the background in color using Photo Explosion. I have had several friends ask and I promised I would put the instructions here soon. So here they are…
1. pick out your picture you want to retouch.
2. go to the tool bar and click edit
3. click on selection and then smart select from your choices
4. go to the left drop down window and click on create new selection
5. click on a place on your object where you want to start and a red ball appears…left click with your mouse around the object until you are done and click the ball and it will be green.
6. go to next at the bottom left
7. pick out what color sepia tone you want and it will change your picture into an object in black and white and the background in color.
I like to use the pumpkin patch for this type of B&W and color picture. I set my kids in the pumpkins and make them B&W and keep the pumpkins around them in color.
Hope this helps. I will add how to make something in color with the background B&W as well as do multiple things in a picture in color soon.
To make an object in color, do the same as below only after you finish left clicking with your mouse around the object…go to Quick selection in the left center of the screen and click on the box with the circle in the center. Then go to next and choose your tint by clicking on it and then choose the color sepia tone you want.
You will follow the steps for the posting “making the background B&W and the object in color”. The only thing different you will want to do is click on the drop down box at the top left and click on add. Once you finish clicking around your first object, you will want to click on the second object.
Hope this makes sense. Once you figure it out it is easy and I think makes the pictures! It will be “A Piece of Cake!”
As promised to a few of my friends, I have added posts below that tell you how to make a color picture have black and white as well as the original color. Photo Explosion is a very easy photo enhancing software package to use. It is very user friendly and I have found that it will do everything I need it to do for my pictures that some other more expensive packages do in much easier steps and less cost. I really like it.
Hope the following posts will help my friends!!!!
